In response to President William Ruto’s recent call for harnessing technology to create employment opportunities, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has announced the launch of the ‘Finya Computer Itoe Dollar’ program.
This initiative aims to equip young Kenyans with essential digital skills necessary for online work and economic empowerment.
Scheduled to commence from March 4th to March 8th, 2024, the ‘Finya Computer Itoe Dollar’ program is a free online training initiative designed to cater to Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 35 years old.
The program, which will run from 8 AM to 5 PM daily, targets individuals proficient in computer skills, as stated in the eligibility criteria.
“The objective of the ‘Finya Computer Itoe Dollar’ program is to equip young people with the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes for digital and online work, enabling them to access decent employment opportunities and earn income from the Gig & Freelancing Economy,” affirmed the Ministry.
The program consists of two modules: the Basic Module and the Advanced Module. The Basic Module covers fundamental areas such as Data Entry, Digital Marketing, and Virtual Assistance, providing participants with foundational skills crucial for thriving in the digital sphere.
Meanwhile, the Advanced Module focuses on ‘AI for Graphic Design,’ offering participants an opportunity to enhance their expertise in this specialized field.
Applicants can register for the program through a dedicated link provided by the Ministry. During registration, candidates are required to provide personal information including full names, gender, ID number, Sub-County of residence, and age.
Additionally, applicants must select their level of education, preferred module, and submit identification documents to complete the registration process.
The launch of the ‘Finya Computer Itoe Dollar’ program aligns with the Kenya Kwanza administration’s commitment to promoting the uptake of opportunities in the digital economy.
Despite initial skepticism, the government remains steadfast in its efforts to bridge the digital divide and create pathways for economic empowerment.
