Safaricom has launched Pata More, a wide-ranging campaign delivering more value across its services.
It covers lower M-PESA transaction fees, bigger mobile data bundles, faster fibre internet speeds, and enhanced digital tools.
The rollout began on 1 August 2026 and continues in phases through August.
The announcements form part of Safaricom’s Pata More campaign, shaped by customer feedback and a commitment to delivering practical everyday value.
CEO Peter Ndegwa said the changes reflect what customers have been asking for.
What Pata More Actually Means
Pata More is built around a simple promise: more value, more convenience and more freedom for customers.
That is the marketing language. The practical reality is a set of concrete reductions and upgrades that affect millions of Kenyans daily.
The changes span M-PESA payments, mobile data, fibre internet, devices, and sector-specific bundles. Each area is worth unpacking separately.
M-PESA Fees: What Has Changed
This is where the most immediate impact sits for everyday consumers.
Lipa na M-PESA Buy Goods
Beginning 7 August, customers making Lipa na M-PESA Buy Goods payments of up to KES 500 will no longer incur transaction charges.
This follows an increase in the fee-free threshold from KES 200.
That change is significant for ordinary Kenyan shoppers. Buying groceries, paying for a meal, or settling a market purchase under KES 500 now costs nothing to process via M-PESA.
Previously only payments under KES 200 were free. The threshold is now more than double what it was.
Business Till Transfer
Businesses transferring funds from Buy Goods tills to M-PESA wallets or PayBill accounts will also benefit from transfer charges that have been reduced by around 50%.
For small business owners who move money out of their tills daily, this is a direct reduction in operating costs.
A charge that previously cost KES 50 now costs KES 25. Across hundreds of transactions a month, that saving compounds meaningfully.
Pochi la Biashara
Customers can now make Pochi transactions of up to KES 200 for free under Pochi Kadogo, up from KES 100.
Fees for transactions above KES 200 will be capped at KES 50 for the next 90 days.
By extending fee-free Pochi payments to KES 200, Safaricom wants paying directly from an M-PESA wallet to become the default option for many everyday transactions.
The goal is clear: keep more transactions inside the M-PESA ecosystem rather than having customers withdraw cash for small purchases.
The Pochi changes are particularly important for women-led micro-businesses.
By the end of 2025, women accounted for just over 52% of active Pochi users, representing more than 900,000 merchants.
Active female users grew by approximately 92% between December 2024 and December 2025.Lower fees directly benefit this fast-growing segment.
Data Bundles: More for the Same Price
The data upgrades under Pata More are substantial.
Customers will now receive 250MB for KES 20, valid for 24 hours, up from 150MB.
The KES 99 daily bundle has been upgraded from 1GB to 1.5GB. The KES 1,000 monthly bundle now offers 21.5GB, more than double the previous allocation of 10GB.
Doubling a monthly bundle from 10GB to 21.5GB at the same price is the kind of change that gets noticed.
For students, remote workers, and small business owners who rely on mobile data, the monthly KES 1,000 bundle just became significantly more competitive.
This is also a direct response to pressure from Airtel Money and other operators competing on data value.
Merchant Tools: Scan and Tap to Pay
Beyond fee reductions, Pata More introduces a checkout experience upgrade for merchants.
Merchant checkouts will also be easier with Scan and Tap to Pay, enabling faster and simpler checkout processes for customers.
This brings M-PESA closer to the seamless, contactless payment experience that consumers increasingly expect.
For busy merchants at markets, restaurants, and retail outlets, faster checkout means shorter queues and more transactions processed per hour.
Devices and Sector-Specific Bundles
Pata More extends beyond payments and data into devices and targeted bundles.

Customers looking to upgrade their devices will receive added value through data, voice connectivity and device insurance.
This includes the Neon Ultra 2 smartphones, available with KES 55 daily repayments and device insurance.
Daily instalments of KES 55 make smartphone ownership accessible to a much broader income segment.
Motorists and motorcycle riders subscribed to Bundle Ya Dereva and Bundle Ya Boda will receive packages combining connectivity with productivity tools.
These include free access to ride-hailing applications, Google Maps and Tuunza Mapato insurance.
These sector bundles acknowledge that different Kenyan workers have different digital needs.
A boda boda rider does not need the same bundle as an office worker. Pata More is trying to serve both.
The Competitive Context
These changes do not happen in a vacuum. Safaricom remains Kenya’s dominant mobile money provider, with M-PESA holding an 89.1% market share as of March 2026.
Dominance, however, does not mean immunity to competition.
Airtel Money’s recent Bizna Wallet launch and expanded Rudishiwa cashback programme are directly targeting the same merchant segment that Pata More is now prioritising.
MTN and other regional players are also investing in data value.
Safaricom is clearly responding to a market that is more competitive than it was two years ago.
Safaricom stated that the revised pricing aligns with the Central Bank of Kenya’s principles on customer-centricity, transparency, fairness, competition, and affordability.
That framing matters. Regulatory pressure on mobile money fees has been building in Kenya for years.
Pata More is partly a market response and partly a regulatory one.
What It Means for You
If you are a consumer, the most immediate gains are in the data bundles and the expanded Lipa na M-PESA free threshold.
Paying under KES 500 at any Buy Goods merchant now costs you nothing.
If you are a small business owner using a Buy Goods till, your transfer costs have been cut by half.
If you use Pochi la Biashara, you now receive free transactions up to KES 200 and capped charges above that for the next 90 days.
If you are a boda boda rider or matatu driver, a bundle now exists specifically for how you work.
Pata More is not a revolution. It is a well-constructed set of incremental improvements across the most-used services in Kenya’s digital economy.
For Safaricom’s 40-plus million customers, those improvements add up to real money saved every single month.
