Buy More for Less with Jumia as Delivery Costs Are Set to Come Down

Jumia Kenya, a leading e-commerce platform, is embarking on a significant shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) for its delivery operations.

The company plans to electrify one-third of its delivery fleet within the next six months, a strategic move aimed at reducing logistics costs and potentially lowering consumer prices.

CEO Vinod Goel revealed that this transition could lead to a substantial cost reduction of 30-40% in logistics. These savings are expected to be passed on to consumers, with potential price cuts of up to 3% on goods purchased through the Jumia platform.

This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to both environmental sustainability and improved operational efficiency.

Expanding Reach and Sustainability

Jumia’s decision to electrify its fleet comes along with a surge in demand from beyond Nairobi. The company has witnessed a threefold increase in orders from rural Kenya and other towns across the country.

To cater to this growing customer base, Jumia has established 80 new pickup locations outside the capital, bringing its total to over 200 across 300 Kenyan towns.

This expansion is further fuelled by the company’s plan to add 100 more pickup locations this year. The integration of EVs into this expanding network is expected to enhance operational efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of Jumia’s delivery operations.
