Swedfund, the Swedish government’s development finance institution, has committed $600,000 to Jacaranda Maternity to support the expansion of its network of high-quality, affordable maternity hospitals in Kenya.
The investment will increase access to safe maternal and neonatal care for women in low- and middle-income communities, particularly in and around Nairobi.
Jacaranda Maternity provides patient-centred services at significantly lower prices than traditional private providers, bridging the gap between overstretched public hospitals and expensive private facilities.
The funding will be used to open additional hospitals, upgrade neonatal care units for preterm and high-risk newborns, and improve existing clinical infrastructure to accommodate growing patient numbers.

Jacaranda Maternity has set a target to expand to six fully operational hospitals, a scale at which it expects to achieve financial sustainability while maintaining affordable care.
The expansion is anticipated to increase the number of births handled, reduce maternal and neonatal complications, and strengthen its role as a leading model for accessible maternal healthcare in Kenya.
