Africa Finance Corporation Diversifies Funding Base with US$100 Million India Exim Bank Loan

Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) has successfully closed a US$100 million, 5-year loan facility from the Export-Import Bank of India (India Exim Bank). The agreement was signed during AFC’s Investor Day in London in April 2026.

The facility will support AFC’s mandate to accelerate the development of critical infrastructure and industrial assets across Africa.

It provides diversified, medium-term funding in an environment of global market volatility and strengthens AFC’s access to alternative liquidity sources beyond traditional capital markets.

Strategic Importance of the Transaction

This loan builds on a prior US$100 million financing secured from India Exim Bank in 2021, further deepening the strategic partnership between the two institutions.

It highlights a shared commitment to infrastructure development and economic cooperation between Africa and India.

The new funding reinforces AFC’s ability to mobilise flexible, cost-efficient capital for high-impact projects while continuing to diversify its funding base.

In a period of elevated global interest rates and constrained traditional capital market access, such bilateral facilities from development-oriented institutions provide valuable stability and predictability for long-term project financing.

This facility is an important milestone in our long-standing partnership with India Exim Bank and reflects our shared commitment to advancing infrastructure development across Africa. Access to diversified and long-term capital is critical to delivering transformative projects on the continent, and AFC remains at the forefront, leveraging strategic collaborations with leading institutions to scale our impact and accelerate Africa’s industrialisation

Alignment with AFC’s Mandate

AFC’s core mandate is to address Africa’s persistent infrastructure deficit by financing and developing projects in power, transport, heavy industry, and related sectors.

The India Exim Bank facility directly supports this objective by providing medium-term resources that can be deployed into priority infrastructure and industrial initiatives.

The transaction also contributes to broader goals of South-South cooperation, demonstrating how partnerships with Asian financial institutions can complement traditional Western and multilateral funding sources.

Future Outlook

Africa Finance Corporation’s successful closure of a US$100 million, 5-year loan facility with the Export-Import Bank of India represents a strategic step in diversifying its funding base and strengthening its capacity to deliver transformative infrastructure projects across the continent.

Building on a previous successful partnership in 2021, the new facility enhances AFC’s financial flexibility and underscores the growing importance of Africa-India economic collaboration.

As of April 2026, this transaction reinforces AFC’s position as a leading mobiliser of capital for Africa’s infrastructure and industrialisation agenda.
