Terra Industries has announced the construction of Pax-2, a new 34,000-square-foot drone manufacturing plant in Accra, Ghana.
Backed by a recent US$34 million funding round, the facility will become the largest drone production site on the African continent and more than double the size of Terra’s existing factory in Abuja, Nigeria.
Pax-2 is expected to create 120 specialised engineering jobs and reach an annual production capacity of 50,000 aerial systems by 2028.
The plant will focus on advanced systems, including the Archer VTOL surveillance drone and the Kama high-speed interceptor, designed specifically for counter-drone operations in response to the growing use of modified commercial drones by non-state actors across sub-Saharan Africa.
Strategic Rationale and Selection of Ghana
The expansion forms part of Terra’s broader “Pax Africana” vision of building African security and sovereignty and reducing dependence on foreign defence suppliers.
Ghana was selected as the location for Pax-2 due to its political stability, growing engineering talent pool, and government support for developing a domestic defense industry.
The facility is scheduled to become fully operational by June 2026. It will enable Terra Industries to design, manufacture, and maintain advanced aerial systems locally, tailored to the specific security challenges faced across the region.
