Proparco, the French development finance institution, has extended financing equivalent to €250,000 to EdenCare, Rwanda’s first licensed digital health insurer.
The investment, announced in April 2026, will support EdenCare’s growth within Rwanda and its planned expansion into Kenya.
EdenCare operates as a primary health insurer, delivering tailored digital health coverage solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The company has also developed a B2B SaaS platform that automates claims management using artificial intelligence, reduces fraud, and enables real-time integration with healthcare providers.
Platform Reach and Innovation
EdenCare’s SaaS platform is currently connected to 70% of Rwanda’s healthcare facilities, including more than 1,300 hospitals and clinics and over 600 facilities in Kenya.
This extensive network allows for seamless, efficient claims processing and improves access to quality healthcare for underserved populations.
The financing will help EdenCare scale its operations, enhance its technology infrastructure, and expand its reach to more SMEs and individuals across East Africa.
Leadership Commentary
Fabrice Perez, Head of Financial Institutions and Innovation at Proparco, stated:
“By supporting EdenCare, we are contributing to a concrete shift in access to healthcare for underserved workers and businesses in East Africa. In a context where fewer than 16% of Rwanda’s population has private health coverage, EdenCare’s model demonstrates that inclusive insurtech is both impactful and commercially viable. This is exactly the type of innovation that Proparco seeks to support across the African continent.”
Strategic Significance
This investment reflects Proparco’s commitment to backing innovative digital solutions that improve healthcare access, financial inclusion, and economic resilience in East Africa.
In a region where traditional insurance penetration remains low, EdenCare’s model offers a scalable and technology-driven approach to bridging the healthcare coverage gap.
