Why Flat6Labs and IFC Are Investing in Algeria’s Startup Support Ecosystem

Flat6Labs, in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-Enterprises, has launched StartAlgeria, a dedicated capacity-building programme aimed at empowering Entrepreneur Support Organisations (ESOs) across Algeria.

The initiative seeks to strengthen the country’s startup ecosystem by equipping incubators and other support organisations with international best practices and strategic tools.

This programme reflects growing international confidence in Algeria’s entrepreneurial potential and marks a strategic investment in the foundational infrastructure needed to nurture high-impact startups.

Objectives and Programme Design

StartAlgeria focuses on building the capabilities of local ESOs to better support pre-seed and seed-stage startups. It will initially pilot with a cohort of incubators based in Algiers, with plans for wider national expansion.

Participants will engage in structured workshops and masterclasses covering critical areas such as startup selection, programme design and delivery, and investment readiness.

They will also receive six months of targeted post-programme mentorship focused on fundraising strategy, partnership development, financial sustainability, and continuous programme improvement.

Leadership Perspectives

Yehia Houry, CEO of Flat6Labs, stated:
“Algeria’s startup ecosystem is demonstrating remarkable potential and a rapidly growing level of maturity. With the right support structures in place, Algeria is well positioned to become one of the leading innovation hubs in the region.”

Cemile Hacibeyoglu Ceren, World Bank Group Resident Representative in Algeria for IFC, commented:
“Algeria’s entrepreneurial community is among the most dynamic and vibrant in the region. This program is a direct expression of IFC’s long-term confidence in Algeria’s private sector and in the ecosystem’s capacity to produce the next generation of high-impact companies.”

H.E. Mr. Noureddine Ouadah, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-Enterprises, added:
“The launch of StartAlgeria marks an important step in reinforcing Algeria’s startup support ecosystem. By strengthening the capabilities of Entrepreneur Support Organizations, we are investing in the long-term growth, resilience, and international competitiveness of Algerian startups.”

Strategic Significance

The programme is implemented in partnership with the Government of the Netherlands. It reflects a strategic effort to build a more robust, professional, and globally competitive entrepreneurship support ecosystem in Algeria.

By strengthening ESOs, StartAlgeria aims to create a multiplier effect that will benefit a larger number of startups through improved mentorship, funding readiness, and market access.

This initiative addresses a critical gap in many emerging ecosystems: the quality and effectiveness of support organisations that serve as the first point of guidance for early-stage entrepreneurs.

Looking Ahead

The launch of StartAlgeria by Flat6Labs and IFC, in collaboration with the Algerian government, represents a targeted investment in the foundational layer of Algeria’s startup ecosystem.

By equipping Entrepreneur Support Organizations with global best practices and ongoing mentorship, the programme aims to unlock the full potential of Algerian entrepreneurs and position the country as a rising innovation hub in North Africa.

This partnership highlights the growing focus on building sustainable ecosystem infrastructure to support long-term entrepreneurial success across the continent.
