Safaricom Ethiopia’s Customer Base Reaches 4.6 Million

Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC has experienced significant growth in its subscriber base, reaching 4.6 million active subscribers by the end of June 2024.

This marks an increase of approximately 250,000 clients from the previous quarter and reflects the company’s expanding operations since its launch in October 2022. Safaricom Ethiopia, a subsidiary of Vodacom Group Limited, reported that it had 4.35 million 90-day active customers at the end of March.

The company’s commitment to expansion is evident in the construction of 2,900 sites, showcasing their phased city-by-city network pilot, which is part of their overall network roll-out and rigorous service tests leading up to their national launch later this year.

He expressed confidence in achieving double-digit growth in earnings before interest and taxes for the financial year ending March 2025, driven by improved performance in Kenya and the anticipation of peak losses in Ethiopia.

The losses are expected to decline as Safaricom scales its operations in the country, which has a population of over 112 million.

Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia has a range of packages aimed at providing value to its customers. Some of the trending packages include TELE VOICE, offering 450 minutes for 100 Birr monthly, 1GB of data for 50 Birr monthly.

Others include TELE SMS with 1500+1500 texts for 50 Birr monthly, and 4G Wi-Fi, offering 100GB for 1000 Birr monthly. The M-PESA Safaricom app provides a convenient platform for purchasing these packages and offers easy access to various services.

Moreover, registering for M-PESA services has been made simple and convenient for customers. Whether using USSD, the M-PESA app, or the new SIM Toolkit (STK) channel, Safaricom has made it easy for individuals to access and manage their M-PESA accounts.

Customers can also register at M-PESA Agents or Safaricom Shops by providing their year of birth and creating a memorable 4-digit M-PESA PIN, with the ability to register up to five M-PESA accounts under the same name.

Furthermore, the company emphasises the importance of transparency and ease of access for its services. Customers can access their M-PESA statements via USSD by dialling *733# and the M-PESA Safaricom app, allowing them to track their transactions and manage their funds more efficiently.
