This phased approach ensures the development of a state-of-the-art 4G network that can be seamlessly upgraded to 5G in the future.

Investing in Tigray’s Future:

Beyond network infrastructure, Safaricom is dedicated to creating jobs and opportunities within the region. They have established a regional office in Tigray, currently employing a dozen people, with plans for further recruitment.

Additionally, their operations are expected to indirectly create thousands of jobs through partnerships with local businesses for tasks like airtime distribution, SIM card sales, and device sales.

The Road to Reconstruction

The Ethiopian government estimates that reconstruction in Tigray will cost around $20 billion, as reported by the Financial Times in August 2023. Safaricom’s investment in network infrastructure and job creation is a positive step towards rebuilding the region’s economic foundation.
