Huawei Strengthens African Footprint with New Cloud Region in Cairo

Huawei is making significant strides in Africa and the world of artificial intelligence with a two-pronged announcement this week.Huawei has officially launched a new cloud region in Cairo, Egypt, aiming to serveĀ  28 countries across Africa.

This move strengthens their commitment to the continent’s digital transformation.This expansion follows through on Huawei’s $430 million investment pledge in North Africa last year.

The plan includes establishing a public cloud centre, fostering partnerships with software and channel partners, and investing in the future by training local developers and digital professionals.

Huawei is also pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence with the release of their Arabic Large Language Model (LLM) based on the Pangu model. This innovative LLM boasts the title of the first 100-billion parameter Arabic LLM in the industry.

The Arabic LLM boasts an impressive automatic speech recognition accuracy rate of 96%, offering significant potential for advancements in voice assistants, translation services, and other Arabic language applications.

Huawei’s commitment to global expansion remains strong. They aim to further increase their overseas presence and build a robust global network.

Currently, they cover an impressive 93 availability zones across 33 regions, providing services to a vast customer base spanning over 170 countries and regions.

Despite geopolitical tensions and US sanctions, Huawei’s cloud business continues to experience impressive growth. In the last financial year, their cloud revenue reached 55.3 billion yuan ($7.6 billion), reflecting a year-on-year increase of 21.9%.

This demonstrates the company’s resilience and the growing demand for their cloud services.

HUAWEI Cloud offers a convenient and secure way to backup your data, access it from anywhere, and restore it to a new device.

Activating HUAWEI Cloud on Your Phone:

  1. Open the Settings app on your HUAWEI or HONOR phone.
  2. Log in to your HUAWEI ID. If you don’t have one, you can create one easily within the app.
  3. Navigate to the Cloud section.
  4. Enable the features you need. This could include backing up your contacts, photos, videos, and other data.

Accessing HUAWEI Cloud from Your Computer:

  1. Visit cloud.huawei.com in your web browser.
  2. Log in using the same HUAWEI ID associated with your phone.
  3. From the Cloud gallery, you can:

View and download photos and videos.

Select and delete specific files.

HUAWEI Cloud is pre-installed on HUAWEI and HONOR devices, but not available on other brands.To restore data from a previous backup to a new phone:

    1. Go to Settings > Log in with HUAWEI ID > Cloud > Cloud backup > Restore data.
    2. Select the backup copy you want to restore and tap Restore.

Restoring Your HUAWEI Backup to Another Phone (Using HiSuite):

  1. Connect your new phone to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. Open HiSuite on your computer and follow the on-screen instructions to establish a connection.
  3. Look for the option to restore data from a backup.
  4. Select the backup file from your previous Huawei phone.

Alternative Backup Option: Google Account

For a simpler backup solution, you can leverage your Google account. Go to Settings > General > Backup & Restore and enable the automatic backup and restore feature.

Troubleshooting HUAWEI Cloud:

If you can’t access your HUAWEI Cloud:

    1. Go to Settings > Log in with HUAWEI ID.
    2. Log out of your HUAWEI ID and then log back in.
    3. Try accessing Cloud again to see if the issue persists.

To access your HUAWEI Cloud without your phone:

Visit cloud.huawei.com and log in with your HUAWEI ID.

Adding Devices to Device Center:

  1. Open the Support App on your phone.
  2. Select Me > MY DEVICES.
  3. Enter the “Device Center”.
  4. Tap the top right corner and choose Scan.
  5. Scan the barcode on your new device or the QR code on its box.The system will automatically identify and fill in the device information.
