The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has been recognised on the global stage, winning the Best New Series of Banknotes award at the High Security Printing – Europe, Middle East, and Africa (HSP-EMEA) Conference.
This award highlights CBK’s commitment to enhancing currency security and maintaining world-class standards in financial security measures.
A Milestone in Currency Design
CBK introduced its latest series of banknotes in August 2024, designed to strengthen security and reduce counterfeiting risks. The newly introduced series includes denominations of KES 1,000, 500, 200, 100, and 50.
While retaining the design elements of the previous series, these banknotes integrate advanced security features that set a new benchmark for currency protection.
The upgraded security features include Louisenthal’s RollingStar® i+ thread incorporated across all denominations. The higher denominations—KES 1,000, 500, and 200—utilize the ZigZag dynamic movement effect, while the lower denominations—KES 100 and 50—feature the Crystal effect.
Additionally, each banknote is decorated with iridescent bands that respond to UV light, along with dual-colour fluorescence, providing a secondary level of security to curb counterfeiting.
