MTN Nigeria’s board has approved an interim dividend of ₦26 per share, with payment scheduled to begin on September 7, 2026.
The announcement came alongside half year results showing profit after tax jumping 70.6 percent to ₦707.5 billion, one of the strongest earnings turnarounds the telecom operator has posted in recent years.
The Numbers Behind the Payout
The MTN Nigeria interim dividend 2026 follows a half year in which nearly every major financial line improved.
Service revenue climbed 25.9 percent to roughly ₦3.0 trillion, driven by strong growth in both data and voice services.
EBITDA rose 39.2 percent to about ₦1.7 trillion, pushing margins up to 55.9 percent. The company added 4.9 million new subscribers, bringing its base to 92.2 million, while active data users grew to 55.7 million.
Free cash flow jumped 73.9 percent to ₦712.7 billion, a sign of disciplined capital allocation alongside the earnings growth.
MTN Nigeria Chief Executive Officer Karl Toriola described the results as reflecting sustained commercial momentum, improved profitability and strong cash generation, crediting a steadier naira and tighter cost management for much of the improvement.
The company also invested ₦620.5 billion in capital expenditure during the period to strengthen its network and expand home broadband, and contributed ₦622.6 billion in taxes and levies to the government.
When and How Shareholders Get Paid
The MTN Nigeria ₦26 dividend September payout applies to shareholders whose names appeared on the company’s Register of Members as of the qualification date, August 20, 2026.
Anyone who owned shares on or before that date qualifies for the payment, regardless of whether they still hold the stock by the payment date.
Dividends will be transferred electronically starting September 7, 2026, directly into the bank accounts of eligible shareholders who have completed their e-dividend registration.
For this MTN Nigeria shareholder dividend payment to reach an investor’s account, that investor’s e-dividend mandate must already be on file with Coronation Registrars Limited, the firm handling the distribution.
MTN Nigeria has urged shareholders who have not yet registered, along with anyone holding unclaimed dividends from previous payouts, to regularise their records ahead of the payment date.

Coronation Registrars and the Mechanics of the Payment
The MTN Nigeria Coronation Registrars dividend process works through Nigeria’s standard e-dividend system, which was built to eliminate the delays and lost payments that once plagued paper dividend warrants.
Shareholders who are properly registered will see funds land automatically in their bank accounts on September 7.
Those who are not registered, or whose bank details are outdated, risk having their payment held until they update their records through Coronation Registrars or MTN Nigeria’s investor relations team.
Investors should also expect the final amount received to be less than the announced ₦26 per share.
Nigeria applies a 10 percent withholding tax on dividend payments, which brings the effective payout down to about ₦23.40 per share after tax.
Across MTN Nigeria’s roughly 20.99 billion outstanding shares, the interim dividend represents a gross distribution of close to ₦545.9 billion, of which about ₦54.6 billion will be withheld and remitted to the government before shareholders receive the balance.
What It Signals for MTN Nigeria
The size of this payout stands out against MTN Nigeria’s recent history. The company declared an interim dividend of just ₦5 per share in October 2025, following a difficult 2024 that included a loss before the business rebounded.
The jump to ₦26 per share reflects how sharply the company’s fortunes have turned, supported by naira stability, subscriber growth and rising data usage across its network.
For shareholders, the practical takeaway ahead of September 7 is straightforward.
Confirm that bank account details and e-dividend registration with Coronation Registrars are current, expect the after tax amount rather than the full ₦26 headline figure, and watch the payment date itself, since funds are meant to land automatically for anyone who was on the register as of August 20, 2026.
