ShopriteX’s innovation team has introduced Pixie, a fully in-house developed personalised AI shopping assistant integrated into the Sixty60 app.

Launched on 9 April 2026, Pixie represents the first time a major South African online retailer has deployed a Smart AI assistant capable of learning from each customer’s individual shopping habits to curate and prepare personalised baskets.

The assistant is designed to make grocery shopping simpler, faster, and more relevant by reducing manual effort and delivering tailored recommendations and offers.

Core Capabilities of Pixie

Pixie leverages advanced machine learning to analyse purchase history, preferences, and behaviour patterns. Its main functions include:

• Intelligent Product Suggestions: Pixie proactively recommends restocks of frequently purchased items, new products aligned with past choices, and relevant deals or promotions.
• Smart Basket Feature: Products are presented as swipeable cards. Users can swipe left/right to browse, swipe up to remove an item, or swipe down to add it to the basket. This gesture-based interface significantly reduces search and scrolling time.
• Personalised Offers: The assistant delivers targeted promotions and discounts based on actual buying behaviour rather than generic campaigns.
• Privacy-First Design: Pixie is built on the foundation of the Xtra Savings rewards programme and operates with strong privacy safeguards, ensuring customer data is used responsibly and transparently.

Initially, Pixie will roll out in beta to Xtra Savings Plus members, with broader availability planned in subsequent phases.

Future Enhancements

ShopriteX has outlined a clear development roadmap for Pixie, including:

• Conversational capabilities, allowing users to interact with the assistant via natural language.
• Automatic reordering of household essentials based on consumption patterns.
• Meal planning functionality that considers budget, dietary preferences, and current pantry contents.

These planned features aim to further simplify the shopping experience and position Pixie as a comprehensive personal shopping companion.
