Lua, a Nairobi-tested artificial intelligence startup (YC F25), has closed a US$5.8 million seed funding round led by Norrsken22.
The round included participation from Flourish Ventures, 20VC, P1 Ventures, Enza Capital, Phosphor Capital, Y Combinator, and several other technology investors and operators.
Founded in 2024 by Lorcan O’Cathain (CEO) and Stefan Kruger, Lua provides a platform that enables businesses to deploy and manage AI agents that function as digital employees.
These agents handle complex workflows such as customer onboarding, loan processing, insurance claims, and client qualification while collaborating seamlessly with human teams inside existing business systems.

Use of Proceeds and Expansion Plans
The new capital will fuel Lua’s expansion across Kenya and other emerging African markets, as well as into the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Since launching its agent development platform in late 2025, the company has reported strong traction, with revenue growing approximately 30% week-on-week.
The funding will support:
- Further development and refinement of the AI agent platform.
- Expansion of the team and operational presence in key markets.
- Scaling of adoption in regulated sectors such as financial services, where Lua is already seeing traction in Kenya and other African markets.
Leadership and Investor Perspectives
Most businesses are either blocked by technical complexity or locked into rigid tools that don’t reflect how their teams actually work. Lua is built on the opposite principle: teams own their agents, own their outcomes, and build compounding efficiency over time

The founders fundamentally understand how agent and human workforces need to collaborate to get work done. Additionally, they are a global company that has deployed in Africa, Asia, the U.S. and Europe with deep experience, a volume of data, and a pricing intuition that’s difficult to replicate

Market Relevance and Strategic Significance
The investment reflects growing enterprise demand for practical systems that coordinate hybrid human-AI teams, particularly in regulated sectors such as financial services.
Lua’s platform addresses a critical gap by enabling businesses to deploy intelligent agents that integrate seamlessly with existing workflows, rather than replacing human teams entirely.
By focusing on ownership, collaboration, and measurable efficiency gains, Lua is positioned to support organisations transitioning to more intelligent and scalable workforces in both emerging and developed markets.
Looking Ahead
Lua’s US$5.8 million seed round, led by Norrsken22 and supported by a strong group of global and Africa-focused investors, provides the resources needed to scale its AI workforce platform across multiple continents.
The company’s focus on practical, collaborative AI agents that enhance rather than replace human teams positions it well to meet the growing demand for hybrid workforce solutions, especially in regulated industries.
This funding round strengthens Lua’s trajectory as a leading player in the evolving AI agent space, with particular relevance for African enterprises seeking efficient digital transformation.
