How NCBA’s New Insurance Identity Strengthens Its Market Position

In a bold move that highlights its commitment to growth and customer-centric innovation, NCBA Group has officially rebranded AIG Kenya Insurance Company to NCBA Insurance Company (NCBA-IG).

This milestone follows NCBA Group’s acquisition of a 66.67% stake in AIG Kenya in July 2024, marking a strategic expansion into the rapidly evolving insurance sector.

A Seamless Transition: From AIG Kenya to NCBA-IG

The rebrand represents more than a simple name change; it signals a combination of legacy and future ambition.

With this acquisition, NCBA Insurance Company becomes the seventh subsidiary under the NCBA Group umbrella, joining a solid portfolio that spans banking, asset finance, and other financial services.

This strategic move is part of NCBA’s larger vision to solidify its position as a comprehensive financial solutions provider in Kenya.

John Gachora, Group Managing Director of NCBA, emphasised the significance of this transition. “NCBA-IG is not just a new brand; it’s a stronger, more competitive player in the insurance market. Our goal is to deliver innovative, customer-focused solutions while aligning with our mission to prioritise the needs of our clients as we move toward 2025 and beyond,” he stated.

A Competitive Edge in a Growing Market

NCBA-IG enters the market at a time when Kenya’s insurance industry is on a steady growth trajectory. The sector, valued at KES 309 billion in 2023, continues to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10%, reflecting a rising awareness of financial security among Kenyans.

The general insurance market alone, valued at KES 188 billion (USD 1.3 billion), is projected to grow by over 9% CAGR between 2024 and 2028.

This acquisition positions NCBA to tap into this expanding market, particularly as other financial heavyweights, such as KCB, National Bank, and Equity Group, have already ventured into bancassurance.

By integrating the former AIG Kenya into its operations, NCBA can leverage its established brand strength and local market expertise to deliver tailored insurance solutions for both individuals and multinational corporations.

Stella Njunge, Managing Director of NCBA Insurance Company, highlighted the transformative potential of the rebrand: “Becoming part of NCBA empowers us to provide exceptional products and services to a broader customer base. Our new identity reflects our commitment to enhancing the understanding of insurance, delivering value, and accelerating growth within the insurance sector.”

Strategic Vision: Innovation and Customer-Centric Solutions

The move to establish NCBA-IG is aligned with NCBA Group’s 2025 strategic vision, which focuses on customer obsession and market leadership.

This vision prioritises offering innovative solutions tailored to the evolving needs of the Kenyan market. The Group aims to redefine the customer experience by leveraging advanced technology and comprehensive financial products.

With a renewed focus on innovation, NCBA-IG plans to introduce cutting-edge insurance products and improve service delivery through digital transformation.

This includes enhancing accessibility for customers, offering seamless insurance processes, and ensuring that products are designed to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse customer base.

“The strength of the NCBA brand, combined with our deep-rooted understanding of the local market, provides us with a unique advantage to serve our customers better and drive long-term growth,” Njunge added.

The Future of NCBA-IG: Beyond the Rebrand

The rebrand also positions NCBA Group to stay competitive in an industry where financial institutions are increasingly diversifying to meet the broader needs of their clients.

The Kenyan insurance landscape is evolving rapidly, and with the birth of NCBA-IG, NCBA Group is set to play a key role in shaping the industry’s future.

By combining a legacy of trust with a forward-thinking approach, NCBA-IG is not just adapting to market changes; it is setting the pace for innovation and customer excellence.
