Treepz, a Nigerian-born corporate travel startup, has launched operations in Canada, signalling its intent to shake up North America’s business travel industry.
Announced at Brampton City Hall with the enthusiastic support of Mayor Patrick Brown, Treepz’s entry into Canada marks a historic milestone for African tech.
Backed by organisations like the World Trade Centre’s TAP program, the Black Entrepreneurship Alliance, and the Brampton Entrepreneurs program, and with a landmark two-year partnership with the University of Toronto’s African Impact Initiative, Treepz is on track to redefine corporate mobility.
Treepz: From Lagos Streets to Global Heights
Founded in 2019 as Plentywaka in Lagos, Nigeria, Treepz began with a mission to streamline urban mobility in one of Africa’s most chaotic cities.
In just six years, it has grown into a global startup operating in 25 cities across five countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, and now Canada serving over 6 million customers.
Treepz’s tech-driven platform offers end-to-end corporate travel solutions, from ground transportation to flights and accommodations, making it a one-stop shop for businesses and institutions.
The Canadian launch, celebrated at Brampton City Hall, was attended by key figures, including co-founders Onyeka Akumah (CEO), Enagwolor Johnny (President), John Shaibu (SVP, Customer Engagement), and board member Ebenezer Arthur (BKR Capital).
Mayor Patrick Brown praised Treepz’s founders as “brilliant entrepreneurs,” stating, “If you can handle traffic in Lagos, you can handle traffic anywhere in the world. Welcome to Canada! Welcome to Brampton! Welcome home.”

Why Canada? A Strategic Entry Point
Treepz’s decision to launch in Canada is no accident. With 16.5 million daily commuters (Statistique Canada) and 38.7 million international travellers in 2024, Canada’s robust travel market is ripe for disruption.
Treepz’s journey to Canada began in 2021 through the Techstars Toronto Accelerator, where CEO Onyeka Akumah connected with Brampton’s leadership, including Mayor Brown.
Since then, Canadian investors, including BKR Capital, SOSV, and Shock Ventures, have fuelled Treepz’s expansion into Ghana, Uganda, and Kenya, paving the way for its North American debut.
Brampton, Ontario, now hosts Treepz’s Global Headquarters, supported by local initiatives like the BHive program and the World Trade Centre’s TAP program.
Erica Henry-Jackman, Brampton’s Manager for Investment Attraction and International Relations, called the launch a “homecoming moment,” noting Treepz as the first Nigerian company in the BHive program post-COVID.
This strategic foothold positions Treepz to tap into Canada’s growing demand for efficient, tech-driven corporate travel solutions.
A Game-Changing Partnership with the African Impact Initiative
Treepz hit the ground running with a two-year partnership with the African Impact Initiative, a University of Toronto-sponsored community that empowers young visionaries through sustainable, impact-driven ideas.
Treepz will manage comprehensive travel logistics, including flights, accommodations, ground transportation, and experiences for delegations travelling to South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, and Rwanda from Canada and beyond.
This deal, secured with support from partners like Efosa and Osas Obano, showcases Treepz’s ability to deliver seamless, cross-continental travel solutions.
