Open Access Energy Secures $750,000 to Tackle South Africa Blackout

South African energy tech startup Open Access Energy (OAE) has secured a substantial $750,000 investment from Factor E Ventures as part of its $1.5 million seed round.

The funding will be instrumental in accelerating the development and deployment of OAE’s innovative energy management software, designed to address South Africa’s persistent energy challenges.

South Africa’s Energy Crisis: A Catalyst for Innovation

South Africa has been struggling with a severe energy crisis characterised by rolling blackouts, escalating energy costs, and a reliance on coal-fired power plants.

This has created a pressing need for sustainable and efficient energy solutions. Open Access Energy is positioned to play a pivotal role in addressing these challenges.

OAE’s Solution: A Blueprint for Energy Efficiency

OAE’s core offering lies in its advanced energy management software, Amptera and Energypro. These platforms are designed to optimise the distribution and management of renewable energy, enabling a more efficient and resilient energy grid.

By facilitating real-time energy transactions between independent power producers (IPPs) and consumers, OAE’s technology empowers stakeholders to make data-driven decisions and maximise the value of renewable energy resources.

A key component of OAE’s solution is its energy wheeling platform, which automates the matching of energy generation and consumption. This innovative approach enhances grid stability, reduces energy losses, and accelerates the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid.

A Strategic Partnership

Factor E Ventures, renowned for its investments in climate and development solutions, recognises the immense potential of OAE’s technology to transform South Africa’s energy sector. The investment is a testament to the startup’s ability to address a critical global challenge while delivering substantial returns.

Gerjo Hoffman, CEO of Open Access Energy, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This investment is a game-changer for OAE. It will enable us to scale our operations, refine our software solutions, and expand our reach beyond South Africa. Our goal is to create a more sustainable and equitable energy future for all.”
