Go Electric has unveiled its latest UTU saloon car models in Rwanda, marking a significant stride towards environmentally friendly transportation solutions in the region.

The company plans to introduce over 1,000 EVs by 2025, offering a diverse range including saloon cars, three-wheelers, pick-ups, and trucks.

To promote affordability, Go Electric has partnered with financial institutions to provide financing options, with prices starting at Sh1.7 million ($12,000).

“The UTU model is competitively priced, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers not only in Rwanda but other parts of Africa. Their affordability redefines sustainable transportation, making it more accessible than ever,” said Paul Njeru, Go Electric Limited’s Director.

A competitive pricing strategy for Electric Vehicles (EVs) can significantly enhance accessibility to a wider range of consumers.

By offering EVs at competitive prices, manufacturers can reduce the initial cost barrier, making them more financially feasible for consumers.

Evans Komen, Go Electric’s Sales Director, emphasized the company’s commitment to a sustainable future for Africa. “We’re investing Sh2.8 billion (USD 20 million) to import more vehicles, supporting the global shift towards e-mobility,” he stated.

Komen envisioned a future where sustainable transportation was both environmentally conscious and economically viable.

Go Electric is a green-tech company that develops energy solutions and services for commercial, industrial, and microgrid customers.

Their products include LYNC DR, an uninterruptible power system (UPS) integrating solar, wind, generators, and batteries, designed to provide secure power and lower energy costs.

Electric vehicles (EVs) can help reduce carbon footprints and mitigate environmental impact in several ways:

  • Zero tailpipe emissions: EVs run on electricity, reducing direct emissions of carbon dioxide and other pollutants, thereby improving air quality.
  • Reduced energy consumption: EVs are more energy-efficient than gasoline-powered vehicles, resulting in lower energy consumption and reduced environmental impact.
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions: EVs do not produce greenhouse gases, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions.
  • Reduced NOx and PM2.5 emissions: The use of EVs can help reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions, improving air quality.
  • Reduced use of non-sustainable power: EVs help reduce reliance on non-sustainable power sources like coal and oil.

UTU saloon car models boast technological advancements such as a theft deterrent system, audio system, and Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus system with an 8″ diagonal HD color touchscreen.

“We are investing USD 20,000,000 to import more vehicles and help the country as the global attention shifts to e-mobility,” added Paul Njeru.

Go Electric’s strategy of targeting ride-hailing companies and corporate clients includes reducing upfront costs, providing affordable financing, making EV charging more convenient and affordable.

Additionally, they will educate drivers on EV benefits, and tailor ride-hailing apps to support drivers with EVs.

As Go Electric pioneers the EV movement in Rwanda, the UTU saloon car models symbolize not just a shift in transportation but a commitment to a sustainable and economically vibrant future. The green drive is on, and Rwanda is at the forefront.
