What Vodacom Lesotho’s M-Pesa Expansion Means for Digital Finance

In a major step towards financial inclusion, Vodacom Lesotho has announced the expansion of its M-Pesa mobile money service to all mobile users in the country, eliminating previous network restrictions.

This move is set to transform digital finance in Lesotho, ensuring that every mobile user, regardless of their network provider, can access M-Pesa’s diverse financial services.

Breaking Barriers to Financial Access

For years, M-Pesa has been a cornerstone of digital transactions in Lesotho. However, access was previously limited to Vodacom subscribers.

“As M-Pesa matures into its teenage years, we are thrilled to extend its benefits to an even larger segment of Basotho. Our vision is an inclusive digital future for Lesotho, and this step marks a major milestone in that journey. More importantly, we aim to leverage M-Pesa’s credit scoring capabilities to further financial inclusion, allowing individuals who might not typically qualify for credit from traditional banks to access financial services.”
