Absa Bank Kenya, Kenya Airways and Visa Launch Asante Global Card

Absa Bank Kenya, Kenya Airways and Visa have launched the Asante Global Card, a co-branded travel and lifestyle credit card the three partners describe as the first of its kind in the Kenyan market.

Announced on August 31, 2026 at Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi under the campaign banner Your Life Rewarded, the card is aimed at professionals, frequent travellers and premium banking customers, and became available to eligible applicants from September 1, 2026.

What the Asante Global Card Kenya Launch Combines

The Asante Global Card Kenya launch brings together three distinct strengths under a single product.

Kenya Airways contributes its route network, flight rewards and SkyTeam alliance connectivity.

Absa Bank Kenya provides local credit underwriting, banking infrastructure and wealth management integration.

Visa supplies worldwide merchant acceptance, security protocols and digital payment rails across more than 200 countries.

The partners say this marks the first time an airline, a bank and a payments network have combined on a single card product in the Kenyan market, with the name itself blending Asante, the Swahili word for gratitude, with Global, a reference to the card’s international reach through Visa’s network.

How the Absa Kenya Airways Visa Credit Card Works

The Absa Kenya Airways Visa credit card operates across two tiers, the Asante Global Signature Card and the Asante Global Platinum Card.

Both accrue Asante Rewards Points on everyday spending, including groceries, fuel, dining, travel bookings and international payments, extending the loyalty concept well beyond the frequent flyer transactions that typically anchor airline branded cards.

New Signature cardholders receive a welcome bonus of 10,000 Asante Rewards Points, while Platinum cardholders receive 5,000 points at signup.

Cardholders also earn additional rewards specifically when purchasing Kenya Airways tickets using the card, giving frequent travellers a clear incentive to consolidate both everyday and travel spending onto the same product.

Beyond points accumulation, cardholders get complimentary airport lounge access, travel and medical insurance, additional baggage allowance and SkyPriority services worldwide, along with selected shopping, dining and lifestyle discounts and curated experiences such as golf tournaments and wine tastings.

Why the Kenya Airways Asante Rewards Card 2026 Timing Makes Sense

The Kenya Airways Asante Rewards card 2026 launch lands at a moment Visa Kenya Country Manager John Njoroge described as being driven by a generation of Kenyan consumers earning more, travelling more and expecting more from the cards in their wallets.

Kenya Airways Chief Commercial and Customer Officer Julius Thairu said the airline is proud to offer a product that turns daily transactions into opportunities for flight awards, point conversions and exclusive benefits across its network and partner airlines, positioning the card as an extension of the airline’s loyalty programme beyond its traditional frequent flyer base.

For Absa, the card adds a differentiated product to its premium banking portfolio and lets the bank offer value beyond traditional credit and payment services.

Absa Bank Kenya Consumer Banking Director Moses Muthui tied the launch to the bank’s wider purpose, describing it as a reflection of Empowering Africa’s Tomorrow and framing the partnership as a way to help customers connect to experiences that matter as their aspirations extend beyond borders.

Kenya Premium Travel Rewards Card Landscape

The arrival of a Kenya premium travel rewards card built around a three way airline, bank and payments network partnership signals a broader shift in how Kenyan consumers are expected to think about credit cards.

Where a credit card has traditionally been viewed mainly as a borrowing or payment tool in the local market, the Asante Global Card points toward cards increasingly functioning as platforms through which customers access travel, lifestyle and financial benefits together.

Visa’s global acceptance also gives cardholders a practical advantage while travelling internationally, reducing the need to carry large amounts of foreign currency across borders.

What Comes Next

Applications for the Asante Global Card are being processed online, with eligibility, benefits and rewards programme details available through the card’s dedicated website.

The bigger story behind the launch may not be the card itself but the partnership model it represents, one in which payment technology, banking and aviation combine to serve the same customer rather than compete separately for their attention.

If the model proves successful in Kenya, it could offer a template other airlines, banks and payment networks across the region look to replicate as competition intensifies for the continent’s growing base of frequent travellers and premium banking customers.
