Bolt, the leading mobility platform in Africa, has successfully concluded its inaugural Accelerator programme, showcasing the company’s commitment to promoting innovation and entrepreneurship within its Kenyan community.
The program opened its doors to drivers, Boda-Bodas, and their families, inviting them to submit their most innovative business ideas.
This initiative aimed to provide a platform for these individuals to turn their dreams into reality with the support of seed funding and mentorship.
The program, launched in April 2024, attracted a significant number of applications from both drivers and couriers, highlighting the growing interest in entrepreneurship within the Bolt ecosystem.
From a pool of numerous applicants, 120 candidates were selected to participate in the Bolt Academy.
This intensive training program equipped them with essential business and presentation skills, preparing them for the competitive pitch day.
After a thorough selection process, 10 top-performing individuals were awarded €2000 (approximately Ksh 287,000 each) in seed funding to further develop their innovative business ideas.

The selected entrepreneurs underwent intensive training through Bolt Academy, where they acquired essential business skills.
This training was followed by exclusive sessions with industry experts, allowing them to refine their ideas and prepare for the final Pitch Day event.
Held at the prestigious Sarova Stanley Hotel, the Pitch Day saw participants present a diverse range of innovative solutions.
From electric vehicle charging stations to specialised transport for people with disabilities and tech-enhanced last-mile delivery services, the ideas showcased the creativity and potential of the Kenyan entrepreneurial landscape.
A panel of judges, including Linda Ndungu, GM Rides at Bolt, and Maryanne Akoth from Strathmore Business School (SBS), evaluated the pitches based on their originality, potential impact, and feasibility.
The winning ideas demonstrated a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the mobility sector and offered promising solutions.
Bolt’s investment in the Accelerator programme aligns with its broader commitment to Africa. The company has pledged to invest €100 million (about $14.3 billion) in Kenyan operations as part of a larger €500 million (about Ksh 71.8 billion) investment across the continent over two years.
This investment demonstrates Bolt’s confidence in the potential of the African market and its dedication to supporting local entrepreneurs.
