Google Pushes the Boundaries of AI with Gemini 1.5 Pro

In the latest update, Gemini is introducing several enhancements, including an extended context window, improved data analysis capabilities, integration with additional Google apps, and customisable options.

Gemini has developed to become the ultimate personal AI assistant, offering a conversational, intuitive, and helpful experience.

Whether accessed through the app or web interface, Gemini empowers users to handle complex tasks and take action with ease.

These updates were revealed during an event on Tuesday, with Sundar Pichai and others from Google’s leadership team announcing all kinds of AI-powered goodies from the stage at Mountain View, CA.

These updates aim to provide users with the most intelligent and personalised Gemini experience yet. The release of Gemini 1.5 Pro, the cutting-edge model, to Gemini Advanced marks a significant milestone, following the fast adoption of Gemini Advanced by over 1 million users in just three months.

Gemini 1.5 Pro incorporates the latest technical advances, featuring an expanded context window starting at 1 million tokens, the longest among widely available consumer chatbots.

This extended context window enables Gemini Advanced to comprehend multiple large documents, summarise extensive emails, and soon handle video content and complex codebases.

To take advantage of this extended context window, users can now upload files directly from Google Drive or their devices to Gemini Advanced.

This functionality allows for quick access to insights and answers from dense documents, enabling tasks such as understanding rental agreements or comparing research papers.

Additionally, Gemini Advanced will soon function as a data analyst, extracting insights and generating custom visualisations from uploaded data files.

It’s important to note that Gemini prioritises user privacy, and uploaded files are not used to train the AI models. Gemini’s multimodal capabilities are further enhanced with Gemini 1.5 Pro, particularly in image understanding.

Users can now take a photo of a dish at a restaurant and request a recipe or capture a math problem for step-by-step solving instructions, all from a single image.

Gemini 1.5 Pro will be accessible to Gemini Advanced subscribers in over 150 countries and across more than 35 languages. In addition to technical advancements, Gemini is also introducing new ways to interact with the assistant more naturally.

Users can now chat with Gemini in the Google Messages app, offering a seamless experience for both messaging and AI assistance.

Looking ahead, Gemini Advanced subscribers can anticipate the rollout of Gemini Live, a mobile conversational experience designed to make interactions with Gemini more intuitive.

This feature leverages state-of-the-art speech technology, allowing users to engage in spoken conversations with natural-sounding voices and the ability to interrupt or clarify mid-response, resembling real-life interactions.

The planning experience within Gemini Advanced is also receiving an upgrade, going beyond suggesting activities to create custom itineraries based on user preferences and contextual information.

Users can request personalised travel plans, and Gemini will consider factors such as flight details, meal preferences, local attractions, and more to craft a tailored itinerary.

Gemini Advanced subscribers will soon also  have the ability to create customised versions of Gemini known as gems tailored to specific needs, such as a gym buddy, sous chef, coding partner, or creative writing guide.
